Shannon O’Hara

YIN & HATHA YOGA TEACHER

Namaste, meaning: “the light in me honours the light in you”.

What a beautiful greeting!

I’m Shannon, and at 53 I’m still learning & figuring out this incredible existence we call life. Freshly back to the Health Hub from 2 months of yoga, meditation & immersive travel in India…I’m bursting to share my firsthand knowledge with you all to help guide you into the world of yoga (& essentially…to you!)

I’m passionate about inward contemplation, self-care, self-love, body awareness, correct diet, alternative thinking, mindfulness, music, nature, travel, cultures, rituals & building a community of like-minded people.

I’ve a background in dance & performance but I’ve been practicing yoga for 28yrs & after yoga training in Australia & India, I’ve been teaching for 6yrs now.

I give thanks to all my teachers past, present & future who have & continue to nurture & guide me on my yoga path to the core of my true self.

I teach Hatha with a sprinkle of joy, flowing movements & laughter thrown in to invigorate & balance the body and Yin to rest, release & restore the body back into a calm state.

I believe we need to take our practice seriously but it’s all about our approach & attitude while we are doing it. It’s all there for us…we just need to slow down & tune in.

Yoga is not a religion but a way of life. If practiced properly, it unites our mind, body & spirit so we can come to understand ourselves in a holistic sense. To learn how to live in this fast-paced world, to be able to self-regulate our breath, emotions & reactions to then live a calmer & more balanced life.

I look forward to meeting you on the mat.

Om Shanti…

Shannon

Yoga Classes - Hatha & Yin

Each class is 1 hour and 15 minutes long. Come prepared with your mat and water bottle and leave your shoes and the world at the door. We’ll explore asana (through correct alignment & use of props), pranayama (breath control), meditation & yoga philosophy (ancient wisdom & ethics) to directly connect us to the self & to the elements & strengths of the universe.

Hatha yoga:
A dynamic session with a focus on asanas (poses) to move, stretch & build strength, pranayama (breath control) to expand breath capacity & create flow within the body, meditation for mental clarity & relaxation to calm the nervous system.
My approach is an addictive combination of tradition with a sense of joy & lightness!

Yin yoga:
A slow paced nourishing & relaxing session (on the floor) to reset the nervous system.
Yin yoga is based on the TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) & it’s meridian system. We practice with the seasons & their correlating yin/yang organs. Most poses are held for 2-4mins to allow the whole body- particularly the fascia- to soften & release it’s tension.
You may arrive feeling wound up but you will leave feeling calm & relaxed.
